Ibadan, Oct. 11, 2017 (NAN) Man Hee Lee, the Chairman of  Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL),  says global peace could be achieved  through   comprehensive application of peace education.

HWPL Press and Media Liaison, Jackie Kim, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Wednesday that  Lee and other prominent global  leaders said this  at a World Alliance of Religions’ Peace meeting with education specialists as part of their action plan to develop peace education.

Lee said that HWPL had  established peace academies in  127 education institutions in nine  countries, including India, Israel, Kosovo, and the Philippines.

The HWPL Chairman, who  said  that the world needed peace education to attain global peace, added that   this  must start from the family.

“We need peace education specifically for today. We ourselves should be the reality of peace education. Without the spirit of peace in me, how can I possibly educate peace to students?

“To do this, peace education must start from family  so that the family becomes peaceful and preach such,” he said.

Hon. Maria Eugenia Barrios Robles de Mejía, Vice Minister, Ministry of Education,  Guatemala,  emphasised the need for all  citizens worldwide to be more tolerant of each other.

She stated that dialogue  was the way to accept  differences and resolve every conflict.

“Education has a lot of role to play in the diffusion of the culture of peace. Our effort is to contribute to the promotion of the culture of peace across the world through peace education,’’ she said.

Prof. Juan Carlos Torres f Don Bosco University said peace education would change and form the values of peace within the hearts of children as a permanent change.

Torres stated that he got a surprising result from his teaching experience of peace education, having applied the focus of HWPL value of conflict resolution with children.

Nancy Roussopoulos, a former Principal of  Camps Bay Preparatory School, Cape Town,  called for enhancement of   communication, network for methodology and evolution of  curriculum on  peace education for future generations.

She  also canvassed  awareness on the need for teachers to understand the value of peace with detailed educational contents.

“When we as teachers take up the responsibility to speak to our students, we have to be role models from how we speak, relate and adhere to orders within the society, we are sure of positive results in our students,’’ she said. (NAN)
