Lagos, Oct. 9, 2017 (NAN) Following the eventual qualification of the Super Eagles for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Donatus Agu-Ejidike has congratulated the players saying it was remarkable feat.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Group B showdown at Uyo on Saturday was a keenly contested match, in which the Super Eagles showed character in the narrow 1-0 victory over the Chipolopolo.
Ejidike said on Monday that the qualification of the Super Eagles for the World Cup was the best thing that could happen to Nigeria at this point in time.
He praised the patriotic zeal of all the players, as well as the motivation and sense of organisation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the role played by the Akwa Ibom State government.
Ejidike commended the spirit of nationalism that was displayed by every Nigerian on the day of the match as they stood as one to ensure victory in the crucial encounter.
“I congratulate Nigerians and the Super Eagles on the victory over the Chipolopolo of Zambia.
“It is worthy to note that sports should be given all the necessary support because when we are in the sports arena, nobody talks about our differences.
“Like when the Eagles were playing, nobody bothered about their tribe or religious affiliation, all we were talking about was victory and success.
“Now that the country is faced with political challenges, sports is a veritable tool to preach peace,’’ he said.
The philanthropist added that the nation’s football regulatory body should begin preparations for the World Cup by organising Grade A friendly matches for the team. (NAN)
