Court remands man over alleged membership of gang of thieves

Minna, Oct. 6, 2017 (NAN) A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of one Mustapha Umar, for allegedly belonging to gang of thieves.
Umar was arraigned on a count charge of belonging to gang of thieves, contrary to the provisions of Section 306 of the Penal Code.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Moses Emberga, told the court that the police received information on Sept. 24 from a reliable source that the defendant was part of a gang terrorising Dangoji community, along Paiko Road, in the outskirts of Minna.
Emberga said police swung into action and arrested the accused person, while two others members of the gang where still at large.
When the charge was read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court for an adjournment to enable the police complete its investigation into the matter.
In her ruling, Magistrate Fati Auna, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until Oct. 25 for further mention. (NAN)
