Giedam (Yobe), Oct. 5, 2017 (NAN) The Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Thursday donated 800 goats and N4 million cash to support 200 households affected by Boko Haram insurgency in Giedam, Yobe.
Prof. Sunday Ocheche, Executive Secretary of the fund, presented the goats and cash donation to the State Government in Giedam.
Ocheche said every household would receive three she-goats and one he-goat with N20,000 each to purchase feeds for the livestock.
He said the fund was determined to assist victims of insurgency to rehabilitate their economy through agricultural support programme.
According to the secretary, 800 other households in the state will be supported on irrigation farming to enable them to revive their economy.
“We are supporting 400 households each in Fika and Gujba local government areas on irrigation farming to cultivate tomatoes, pepper and other vegetables,” he said.
Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam commended the fund for supporting the reconstruction and rehabilitation of displaced persons in the state.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammad Lamin, said the state government would continue to partner with organisations working to uplift the lives of the people.
He appealed to the fund to commence early preparations for the irrigation programme to facilitate the speedy recovery and rehabilitation of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.(NAN)
