Yola, Oct. 5, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Adamawa chapter has honoured a Head Teacher in Demsa Local Government Area, Mr Bulaube Myadumiya, for recruiting and paying two part time teachers from his salary.
Myadumiya teaches at Bwashi Primary School is a hard to reach rural community in the state where teacher’s avoided being posted to.
At the celebration of the World Teacher’s Day on Thursday, chairman of the NUT state chapter, Mr Rodney Nathan said that Myadumiya has displayed a high sense of patriotism and dedication to service.
Nathàn said thàt in spite of the meagre salaries of teachers, Myadumiya has shown commitment to his job and the plight of his pupils by sacrificing part of his salary to hire two part time teachers and paying for the past two years.
He urged the state government to do more on teachers welfare and recruit more teachers for the effective and learning in the state.
Nathan said there was shortage of teachers in the state and that the pressure on the few teachers was affecting their performance.
“We want to plead with the government to consider recruiting more qualified teachers as over the years teachers are gradually retiring, dying or changing their services without replacements.
“Right now there is a serious pressure on the existing teachers which is negatively affecting their productivity,” Nathan said.
Speaking to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after he was honoured, Myadumiya said he recruited the part time teachers due lack of teachers in the school.
“The school has only four teachers with a population of over 100 pupils; that’s why I saw the need to recruit two teacher which I have been paying monthly allowance of N3,000 each,” Myadumiya said.
Meanwhile, Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Mr Martins Baba who represented the state governor at this years teachers day celebration has directed the state Head of Service to give the two part time teachers employment. (NAN)
