Lagos, Oct. 2, 2017 (NAN) At least 34 suspects, including the killer of Hector, 2007 Guilder Ultimate Search winner, were paraded on Monday by Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Edgal Imohimi.
Those paraded included suspected kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers, ritualists and car snatchers terrorizing different parts of Lagos.
Imohimi said that the suspects were arrested in the last two weeks in Lagos and other states, adding that arms, ammunition, vehicles and other valuables were recovered from them.
According to the police commissioner, the suspected killer of Hector, led the police to his hideout at Sangotedo in Lagos Island where the arms allegedly used in killing Hector were recovered.
“The deployment of more personnel and sustenance of operation in the State Command led to the arrest of 19 suspected cultists and armed robbers.
“Recovered items are six cars stolen in Lagos but were sold off in Enugu where they were recovered. Four other vehicles were also recovered in Lagos.
“We commend Lagosians and the media for partnering with the police to record the success. We promise to sustain the tempo,” the CP said
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hector was killed on Sept. 4 at his Oko-Oba residence shortly after returning from Muritala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja where he picked up a sibling.
The suspected killer told NAN after the parade that he was invited by one JK for the operation, stressing that Hector was killed in his house by a three-man gang.
Also paraded was one “Professor” who was arrested for the alleged kidnap of a five-year-old girl whom he sold to one Oluwo for N60, 000.
According to the CP, investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as possible.
Imohimi also alerted the public on a new pattern of crime whereby suspected criminals parade themselves as Uber drivers with the intention of robbing unsuspecting women seeking transport at night.
The commissioner therefore warned the public against patronizing unofficial Uber drivers, advising prospective patrons to contact Uber through the right channel so as to avoid being victims of robbers.
“Two of the suspects arrested have confessed to the crime and they confessed to have collected N87, 000 which they withdrew from one of the suspect’s bank account.
“Mobile phones and other valuables stolen from the victims were also recovered.
“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.” he said. (NAN)
