Jos, Sept. 28, 2017(NAN) The Rotary Club of Naraguta in Jos, has donated 1,800 exercise books to primary school children living with disabilities in Jos North and Jos South Local Governments of Plateau.

Other beneficiaries of the gesture were children confirmed to be from “very poor homes”.

Ms Theresa Eyetan, President of the Club, who led the team that shared the books on Thursday, said that the gesture was part of the activities to mark Rotary’s month of celebrating basic education and literacy.

“The children selected for the gesture are from less privileged homes that cannot afford writing materials,” she said.

Eyetan added that the club conducted a needs assessment and found out that many children in public primary schools sit on the floor to listen to their teachers.

“Based on that finding, we donated 50 sets of chairs and tables, with a sitting capacity of 150, to both St. John’s Primary School and Islamiya Primary School, both in Jos,” she said.

Head Teachers of both schools, who commended Rotary Club for the kind gesture, said that it would facilitate access to quality education.

Mrs. Phoebe Thomas, of St. John’s Primary School, particularly commended the club for paying special attention to the welfare of the poor, and advised wealthy Nigerians to emulate such kindness.

Miss Precious Koni, an eight-year-old pupil at St. John’s Primary School, thanked the club for the kindness, and appealed for more of such support by other groups. (NAN)
