Abuja, Sept. 27, 2017 (NAN) A 35-year -old businessman, Macqueen Nwuzi, was arraigned on Wednesday at a Grade 1 Area Court in  Karu, Abuja, for allegedly destroying hotel door locks valued at N2,500.

The defendant, a resident of Karu, is facing one-count charge of mischief.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, admitted the defendant to bail of N10, 000 with a reasonable and reliable surety in like sum.

He also said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, submit his or her driver’s licence or national identity card and passport photographs to the court.

He adjourned the matter until Oct. 10 for hearing after the defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ashasim Helen, had informed the court that one Fanty Unique of Hiltop Hotel, Karu, Abuja, reported the defendant at Karu Police Station on Sept. 25.

She said the defendant deliberately destroyed the locks of the room where he had earlier lodged after failing to meet up certain conditions of the hotel.

According to Helen, the defendant after destroying the locks insisted on staying in the room until he was arrested by the Police.

She said that the offence contravened Section 327 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
