Lafia,Sept.27,2017(NAN) The Sangarin Kwandere in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Ahmadu Almakura has advised his subjects and Nigerians against indiscriminate dumping of waste on waterways in order to avoid flooding and in the overall interest of their health.

Al-makura gave the advice on Wednesday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kwandere, Lafia.

The Traditional ruler said that the advice has become imperative considering the harmful effect of refuse on human health and likely danger of flooding.

He said that the advice would also go a long way to ensure environmental cleanliness and the general well-being of the people of the state for the overall development of the country.

According to the monarch, it is also the responsibility of everybody to complement government’s efforts by keeping our environment clean to avoid flooding.

“The indiscriminate dumping of refuse is not good for the health of the people, hence the need for the people of my domain, the state and the country at large to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

“Dumping of refuse in to gutters, markets and other places indiscriminately could also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and rodents, which are dangerous to human health and could lead to the spread of communicable diseases.

He said that the people of the state and Nigerians should be encouraged to concentrate on the cleaning of drains and canals in their immediate environment for the sake of their health.

Almakura reinstated his emirate council’s commitment to continue to educate and sensitise his subjects on the effect of flooding.

He has also urged his subjects in particular and Nigerians in general to continue to live together in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

“Peace is priceless, non negotiable and it is the necessary requirement for the development of any nation or society as no society will achieve meaningful progress without peace.

“We must shun all negative acts capable of threatening the existing peace of the country in the interest of development,“ he added.

He has also called on his subjects and the people of the state to give their maximum support to leaders at all levels of government to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them. (NAN)
