Sokoto, Sept. 26, 2017 (NAN) The Sokoto state Commissioner for Health ,Dr Balarabe Kakale says the state government has redeployed additional doctors and nurses to man state hospitals .
Kakale disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Tuesday.
He said the measure was adopted to minimise the effects of the ongoing nationwide strike by members of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) .
The Commissioner said that the state government was mindful of the need to safeguard the good health of its citizens.
“The effect of the health workers strike at the Federal health institutions has been adequately taken care of.
“This was being done by the deployment of additional doctors and nurses as well as by opening additional wards in the specialist hospital.
“Moreover, we held three emergency meetings with the management of the Ministry of Health and the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, where we took counter measures to accommodate large number of patients,” he said.
The commissioner also stated that the over 20 Primary Health Care Centres in Sokoto were fully equipped with drugs and other essential equipment to tackle emergency cases in the state.
He called on the people to always patronise the centres closer to them in order to minimise the effect of the strike in the state. (NAN)
