Businessman in court over alleged visa fraud, granted N 850, 000 bail

Abuja, Sept. 19, 2017 (NAN) A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday granted N 850, 000 bail to a 35-year-old businessman, Mohammed Bashir, who was arraigned for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The charges, according to the Prosecutor, Ashasim Helen, contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal code.
The defendant denied committing the offence, while the Judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, granted him bail with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the matter until Oct. 4 for hearing.
The prosecutor had told the court that one Ali Mohammed of Mpape, Abuja, reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station on Sept. 11
She told the court that the complainant reported that he entrusted N 1. 05 million to the defendant to process UK visas for one Asia Umara and one other.
She said the complainant later discovered that the defendant obtained the visas at the rate of N200, 000 only and converted the remaining N 850, 000 to personal use, instead of returning the balance as earlier agreed by both parties.
The prosecutor also told the court that the defendant ran away, but was later arrested.
She alleged that the defendant confessed to committing the crime during police investigations. (NAN)
