Lafia, Spet. 18, 2017(NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday called for a careful handling of the activities of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in view of their “very sensitive nature”.
Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, made the call in Lafia, after the Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Umar Tunga (APC/Awe North), raised the issue under matters of public interest.
The Speaker commended President Muhammad Buhari’s handling of the matter, especially the quick deployment of military personnel to the South-East.
“The activities of IPOB, especially the secession agenda, are sensitive and must be handled carefully; there is the need for tact and diplomacy.
“War songs are already being sung, but we do not need war now. We want love, togetherness, unity and peace,” he said.
The Speaker also commended Gov. Tanko Almakura for preaching love and peace, and urged Nasarawa State residents to accept each other as one, irrespective of tribal, religious or political differences.
He cautioned Nigerians against acts capable of threatening the nation’s corporate existence, and challenged the youths to work toward a country that would meet their dreams.
Tunga, while raising the matter, had declared that the unity of the nation was not negotiable, and commended Buhari for deploying security agents to ensure law and order in areas affected by IPOB’s activities.
His colleague, Ibrahim Alkali (APC/Lafia North), who seconded the motion, condemned the activities of IPOB, and urged the House to pass a resolution deploring the group and all it stood for. (NAN)
