Abuja, Sept. 14, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Umar Goni, to 14 months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and theft.

Umar of Soka village, Airport Road, Abuja, accused of stealing his neighbour’s property, had pleaded guilty to the charges of breach of trust and theft.

He pleaded with the court for leniency in sentencing him.

The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, who sentenced the convict, however, gave him an option of fine of N15, 000 and warned him to desist from committing crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that one Jubril Umar reported the matter at Gwagwa Police Station on Sept. 8.
Avhioboh said that on Aug. 2 the complainant and his wife went out and gave the key to their room to the convict.

She said that the convict criminally used the key to open the complainant’s room, made away with all his property and absconded to an unknown destination until he was arrested by the police.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the crime.

She, however, told the court that the said property was recovered.

She said that the offences contravened Section 312 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
