Lagos, Sept. 6, 2017 (NAN) Two domestic servants — a cook and a guard – who allegedly broke into their employer’s home and stole valuables worth N11.1 million, were on Wednesday released on N500, 000 bail on the orders of a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on Lagos Island.
The accused — Maxwell Setome, 46, and Samuel Darama, 22 — are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and theft.
The Magistrate, Mr Ade Adefulire, who gave the ruling, said the accused should also produce two sureties in like sum.
Adefulire said the sureties must be civil servants of not below Grade Level 10 and must have a minimum of N100,000 in their bank accounts.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Ben Ekundayo told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 2 at Lekki Phase 1.
He said the duo conspired and burgled their employer’s home while he was away in Ethiopia and stole items worth N11.1 million.
According to him, they stole 18 gold watches, one 15-inch Apple laptop, phones and 15 Polo T-shirts, all valued at N11.1 million.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment, while Section 307 stipulates a seven-year jail term. Section 411provides two years imprisonment.
Both Setome and Darama pleaded innocence of the offences.
Then case has been adjourned until Oct. 12 for mention. (NAN)
