Lafia, Aug. 29, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Association of Social Work Students (NASOWS), Federal University Lafia chapter, has donated sandals worth N200, 000 to students in 16 primary and secondary schools in Nasarawa  State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the benefiting  schools were in Akunza and Mararaba communities in Lafia.

At the distribution ceremony on Tuesday in Lafia, Mr Chinaso Aweze, the President of the association, said the gesture was to encourage the less privileged in the society.

“The gesture was part of our social responsibility and contribution to the development of the state and to ensure poverty reduction among the people,” he said.

He explained that the association had specially designed the programme to assist young ones in primary and secondary schools in the two communities in Lafia.

Aweze promised that the association would extend similar gesture to 15 communities in the state in order to complement the efforts of parents in view of the current economic recession.

Prof. Mohammed Sanusi-Liman, the Vice Chancellor of the university, urged other associations to emulate this gesture.

Sanusi-Liman, who was represented by Abubakar Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, expressed happiness with the initiative of the association. (NAN)
