Akwanga (Nasarawa State) Aug. 28, 2017 (NAN) Centre for Educational Empowerment and Orientation (CEEO Nigeria), an NGO, has trained 235 primary school teachers in Nasarawa State on classroom management, to enhance learning and teaching and improve the standard of education in the state.
Mr.Oyebisi Davidcrown, the NGO’s Chief Executive Officer, announced this on Monday at the end of a week capacity training workshop for classroom teachers and evaluation officers in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
Davidcrown said that the training was aimed at equipping teachers with basic skills, to tackle the current decline in the quality of education across the state and the country at large.
He added that the workshop was also to train teachers on effective teaching strategy and provide an opportunity for teachers to enhance their skills in classroom management and organisation, scheme of work and lesson plan.
“First and foremost, we are commending Hon. David Ombugadu, a member representing Akwanga/Nassarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constitituency for sponsoring the programme aimed at improving on the education needs of our pupils for the overall development of the country.
“The training workshop was designed to improve on the teachers skills in teaching and learning in their classrooms and also to equip teachers with enhanced knowledge and skills which will impact on the pupils positively.
“I want to urge teachers to use the knowledge gained to impact in your pupils and others positively; this is because the importance of education to the socio-economic development of the country cannot be over-emphasised,” he said.
According to him, “when we transform a teacher, we have transformed the entire society as it was a teacher that trained a doctor, a pharmacist, an engineer, politicians among others, hence the need for the workshop.
He urged the teachers to be up and doing in their duties, to impact positively on the pupils for the overall development of the education sector.
The Chief Executive Officer reiterated the commitment of the organisation to continue to train and retrain teachers, to improve on the standard of education in the state.
Also, Mr. Mark Makama, the Education Secretary of the council, urged the participants to use the knowledge gained to improve the standard of education in the area and the state at large.
He commended the NGO for training the teachers and called for its sustenance.
Some of the teachers, who spoke during the workshop, commended the NGO for organising the training and called for its sustenance (NAN).
