NYG: Lagos will put up brilliant performance -– Sports Director

Abuja, Aug. 28, 2017 (NAN) Olusegun Kolawole, Director, Sports Development, Research, Planning and Documentation, Lagos State Sports Commission, says the state will put up brilliant performances at the 2017 National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin.

Kolawole who made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja, noted that the state was ready to excel at the Games.

NAN reports that the third edition of the Games would hold at the University of Ilorin in Kwara, from Sept. 7 to Sept. 17.

According to him, Lagos State is preparing in a brilliant way to put up an excellent performance at the event.

“In the just concluded zonal eliminations in preparation for the Games, Lagos State performed excellently well, to the extent that it qualified in eight of the 10 events.

“This is a signal to tell everyone that Lagos is ready for the Games and I believe that all other states are waiting for Lagos in Ilorin.

“We are going there to surprise the world. We are coming with 218 athletes to participate in 25 events.

“The athletes have been preparing hard to get the best for the state. Our athletes have been adequately taking care of to motivate them for the Games.

“What happened during the eliminations is a testimony to the fact that we are taking good care of our athletes, and we have paid them all their allowances,’’ he said.

Kolawole described Lagos State as the hub of sports in Africa.

He advised the athletes featuring for the state at the Games to put in their best to excel in their various sports.

“The athletes should know that their performance in the Games will go a long way to build a good future for them in sports,’’ the director said.

Kolawole said the athletes should bear in mind that those selected for events at the competition would represent the country at the 2018 World Youth Games and Junior Olympics.
