Kaduna, Aug. 18, 2017 (NAN) Northern Coordinators of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, GPFN, Rev. Joseph Hayab and Sheik Haliru Maraya, have urged Nigerians to shun politicians engaged in promoting divisions in the country.

The coordinators said in a joint statement on Friday in Kaduna that those hiding behind religion, tribe, and region have nothing to offer to Nigeria.

“Such people have in the past done more harm than good to Nigeria by pitching Nigerians against one another, culminating to the present situation the country has found itself,’’ the statement added.

It stressed that Nigerians must see themselves as members of one Family under God, and elect the best candidates who would promote the overall unity, peace and development of the country.

“Electing candidates on the basis of identity rather than individual’s ability to take the country out of its wilderness has been the bane of Nigeria progress in all spheres of life.

“We should not use religion, age or any other identity to elect people into elective positions.

“It should be on the basis of the candidate’s ability; candidate that is responsive and responsible to the yearnings and aspirations of the people irrespective of tribe, religion, region or political affiliation.

“Our past experience in electing leaders on the basis of religion or other identities have proved us wrong as a people, hence the need not to allow history repeats itself in 2019,” the statement added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two GPFN coordinators, who had served as special advisers on religious matters during late governor Patrick Yakowa in Kaduna State, said  Nigerians must now be wiser and vote for those who would provide good governance for the benefit of all. (NAN)
