Minna, Aug. 16, 2017 ( NAN) Dr. Abdullahi Baffa, the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), on Wednesday urged its beneficiaries to utilise the funds provided for them on projects that would enhance academic excellence.
Baffa made the appeal at the the Federal University of Technology, Minna, during an awareness seminar for TETFund beneficiaries and sensitisation visit to the institution.
This was announced in a statement by Mrs Lydia Legbo, the institution’s Public Relations Officer in Minna.
Baffa, who was represented by Malam Umar Mari, an official of the Fund, said the seminar was to enlighten and build effective collaboration with stakeholders to improve access to intervention funds and improve quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.
He expressed regret that most institutions of higher learning were not conversant with its guidelines or aware of the existence of some of its interventions, leading to misunderstanding.
“The Fund believes that a strong tertiary education system is the backbone of the economy.
“All interventions are well calculated and targeted to bring about a solid foundation for the educational future of Nigeria.
“We are committed to ensuring quality of tertiary education delivery and improving the global competitiveness in our institutions, which is reflected in their policies, projects and programmes,’’ the TETFund boss said.
According to the executive secretary, intervention allocations have tripled for various tertiary institutions in 2016 from what was given in 2015.
This, he said, was to ensure that fund allocations enabled tertiary institutions to achieve world-class standards.
Responding, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mauub Akanji, thanked the TETFund boss for the visit.
He said that the essence of the exercise, which was to facilitate access to TETFund monies by tertiary institutions, was highly beneficial to the University. (NAN)
