Ethiopian Aviation Academy to produce 4,000 professionals from 2025 — Official

Addis Ababa, Aug. 15, 2017 (NAN) The Ethiopian Aviation Academy says the ongoing expansion and modernisation of the institution is aimed at graduating 4,000 professionals annually from 2025.
Mr Yohannes Belete, Senior Marketing Officer, Sales and Business Development, disclosed this while conducting Nigerian journalists and tour operators, during facility tour of the academy in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.
Belete said the academy was established as a training department of Ethiopian Airlines in 1956 with the objective of providing the airline with the required skilled aviation personnel.
He said that due to the Airlines’ commitment towards producing qualified aviation professionals, the academy had continued to expand both in capacity and staffing over the years.
“In line with the airlines’ vision 2025, the Ethiopian Academy has expanded its capacity in terms of facilities and manpower to achieve the 4,000 students annually.
“There are currently 1,600 students who are studying in different fields.
“The Ethiopian Aviation Academy is currently undergoing a massive transformation by heavily investing to equip itself with modern training aircraft, computer-based training, simulators, and other ultra-modern facilities.
“Since its inception, the Academy has become a centre of excellence in developing skilled professionals like pilots, cabin crews and traffic controllers for operational division of the airline.
Belete said that there were students from other African countries such as Rwanda, Cameroon, adding that two trainees for Nigerian presidential fleet were currently undergoing training at the academy.
According to him, majority of the staff of the airline are products of the academy and there are very few expatriates.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the academy was equipped with state of art training facilities such as motionless wide-body mock-up Boeing 767 trainer and motion narrow body mock-up for cabin crew training.
Others are the A350 door trainer and Boeing 787 wide body as well as an Olympic size swimming pool for training on rescue in water.
The airline also has simulators for different aircraft types for pilot training.
The tour was sponsored by the Ethiopian Airlines to commemorate the inauguration of Kaduna route being its fifth route in Nigeria and 55th in Africa.(NAN)
