Businessman, 42, docked over alleged theft of client’s N1.75m

Lagos, Aug. 14, 2017 (NAN) A 42-year-old businessman, Olawale Taylor, who allegedly bolted with his client’s N1.75 million, was on Monday brought before an Ejigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, who resides at Isheri area of Lagos State, is facing three counts charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud.

The prosecutor, Insp. Kenneth Asibor, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large in 2013 at Dee Star Complex, Isheri, Lagos.

Asibor said that the accused won a building contract from the complainant, Ojuolape Engineering Ltd., but failed to execute the contract after he had been paid the N1.75 million.

“Thereafter, the accused and his accomplice ran away, and all efforts to get them failed until the accused was tracked and apprehended by the police,” he said.

Asibor said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs J. E. O. Adeyemi, granted him bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adeyemi adjourned the case until Sept. 4 for mention. (NAN)
