Lagos, Aug. 10, 2017 (NAN) A 35-year-old salesman, Victor Ogugu, who allegedly defrauded his employer of N250,000 was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a fraud and forgery charge.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 18 at Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos.
He said that the accused defrauded his employer, Mikano International Ltd of N250,000 which was given to him to register the company with the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.
“He presented a fake document to the company but when the management went to confirm the document, it was discovered to be fake.
“When the accused was questioned, he confessed that he converted the money to his own use,’’ Egunjobi said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 314 and 363 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
Ogugu, who resides at Ojodu area of Lagos State, however, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs I.O. Raji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Raji said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed for 15 years, if found guilty of fraud, according to the provisions of Section 314.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 9, for mention. (NAN)
