Omu-Aran (Kwara), Aug. 8, 2017 (NAN) A group, Dominion Youth Liberation Movement (DYLM), has called for a level playing ground for candidates contesting in the local government election in Kwara on Nov. 4.
The group’s President, Mr Alex Abegunde, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Omu-Aran on Tuesday.
NAN reports that the group, which was inaugurated in 2012, is engaged in promoting entrepreneurship and self reliance among youths.
Abegunde said availing the candidates a level playing ground and equal opportunities would further boost the sincerity of government in ensuring a credible council election.
He noted that the state government had by the recent announcement of the election date doused the tension generated over its capability to conduct the election this year.
“Irrespective of religion as well as cultural and political affiliation, every candidate deserves equal opportunity and a level playing ground.
“There should not be imposition of candidates in whatever format.
“Every eligible candidate must be selected based on hard work, diligence, popularity and merit, ” he said.
Abegunde said that the group had embarked on the sensitisation of the populace on their civic responsibility of voting and being voted for during elections.
He urged the people of the state, especially the youths, to always embrace tolerance and fair play in their conduct.
“This is the only way we can be at peace to enjoy the dividends of democracy,’’ ” he said. (NAN)
