Ibadan, Aug.7, 2017 (NAN) No fewer than 200 participants were on Monday trained at a capacity building workshop, organised by the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan, to reduce unemployment in the country.

Mrs Oluyemi Olatunde, the Coordinator, Capacity Building programme of the Museum in Ibadan, said the training would revive Nigeria’s culture currently going extinct and promote made-in-Nigeria products.

Olatunde said that the participants were trains on tie and dye, which she said “is a very lucrative vocation that can make one self-employed, an employer of labour and reduce over dependence on government job.’’

The coordinator said that the training was free of charge and would run for four weeks.

She called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the museum financially to be able to train more individuals.

She said that finance was one of the problems currently facing the organisation.

Olatunde said that the museum also visited prisons, where the inmates were thought on how to make liquid soap, air freshener and insecticide free of charge with the support of well-meaning Nigerians, who paid for the materials.

Mr Amos Olurunipa, the Curator and Head, National Museum of Unity, Ibadan said that the programme was organised to empower Nigerians and eradicate poverty in the country.

Olorunnipa said that the museum as a custodian of the country’s heritage, needed to educate the people about the Nigeria’s history and impact knowledge of homemade products to the citizens.

He urged Nigerians to patronise made-in-Nigeria products to encourage local manufactures to preserve the country’s cultural heritage for the future generation.

In his lecture, Mr Tunde Odunlade, a tourism consultant, urged Nigerians to be creative to succeed in whatever field they found themselves.

NAN reports that Olatunde and another facilitator, Mrs Adeniji Awobusayo, demonstrated the making of tie and dye to the participants, both the local and modern methods. (NAN)
