LAUTECH

Abuja, Aug. 5, 2017 (NAN) Ms Favour Omoladun, the reigning Queen, Miss Arewa Osun Beauty Pageant, on Saturday, called on the owner states of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso to resolve the lingering crisis in the institution.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university is jointly owned by the Osun and Oyo State Governments.
Omoladun told NAN in Abuja that it was saddening to note that the students of the university had been subjected to unnecessary delay in resuming their academic activities as the crisis persisted.
NAN also reports that the institution had been shut for almost two years now, as a result of the inability of the owner states, Oyo and Osun to fund the university.
She said that the continued closure of the school had militated against the realisation of the mandate of the university, even as it had also caused untold hardship to the students.
“As one of the university’s student ambassadors, I appeal to the owner states to put heads together and resolve the lingering crisis without any further delay.
“Not only do we suffer and experience reproach, the continued closure of the institution has turned the students into a laughing stock; this is also destroying the reputation that had been built and guarded over the years.
“Youths are the leaders of tomorrow, but we cannot make this a reality if we are on the same spot, so the governors of Osun and Oyo States should resolve this crisis at once”.
NAN recalls that the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, while receiving a delegation led by the President of the LAUTECH Alumni Association, Prof. Adewale Sunday, had described the closure of the school as “pathetic and unacceptable”.
“The Senate is touched by the ongoing two-year strike at LAUTECH; now that we have taken up this issue, we are not going to stop until an action is taken.
“I have had the opportunity to speak with the Minister of Education on the issue, and he has reassured me that efforts are being made to bring the representatives of both governments together to resolve the matter”. (NAN)
