Ado-Ekiti, Aug.3, 2017 (NAN) An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Thursday dissolved a five-year-old marriage between a 39-year-old nurse, Christiana and her husband, Dele Ilesanmi, citing wife’s constant battering and neglect.

The court’s President, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, pronounced the marriage dissolved after she observed that the union had broken down irretrievably.

She awarded the custody of the two children of the marriage to the woman for proper care and upbringing.

Akomolede ordered the respondent (Ilesanmi) to pay N5,000 monthly ‎as feeding allowance for the two children through the court’s Registry.

She said both parties should be responsible for the education of the children and also ordered the respondent to return the receipt of the landed property belonging to the woman.

The petitioner, a resident of No. 24, Moferere Street, Ado-Ekiti, had told the court that her former husband had turned her into a punching bag.

She said the man refused to take care of her and the two children, adding that whenever she persuaded him to do so he would turn it into a fight.

Chritiana ‎said the man had been disgracing and assaulting her publicly whenever they had misunderstanding.

She told the court that her husband seized the documents of a plot where she built her house and stopped her from entering the house.

She urged the court to dissolve the marriage because she no longer loved her husband.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ilesanmi, refused to appear in court after several summonses. (NAN)
