Akwanga (Nasarawa State) Aug. 3, 2017 (NAN)Dr. Rebecca Umaru, Provost, College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State, has warned the institution’s staff against extorting money from students.

“We have warned our staff against extorting money from students under whatever guise.

“Some lecturers sell handouts; other workers claim they have been mandated to collect levies or fees on behalf of the school for one activity or the other.

“We shall not spare anyone caught. No student should pay anything to anyone. Students forced to pay any money should report to the school authority,” Umaru told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Akwanga.

She advised students to pay their school fees in the designated banks, and cautioned them against entrusting that duty to anyone.

Umaru warned students against social vices, saying that a special committee had been set up to deal with those caught.

She particularly advised students against examination malpractice, cultism and fighting, saying that defaulters would be severely dealt.

The provost advised students to study the handbook given to them upon their admission into the college, declaring that ignorance would no longer be accepted as an excuse.

“Aside the handbook, we also organised orientation sessions for every set of freshers. So, no one has an excuse to run foul of our rules and regulations,” she said.

She said that students must pay their registration fees at the bank, download their semester forms and carry out all departmental registrations before being issued examination cards.

“Students that do not meet up with this procedure cannot be given examination cards and will not be cleared to write any examination,” she stated. (NAN)
