Stealing

Lagos, Aug. 2, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old unemployed, Tunde Toba, who allegedly stole his co-tenant’s N700,000, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused was arraigned before Magistrate O.J. Awope on a charge of theft.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed for three years if found guilty of the offence as provided for by Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Toba, who resides at Mongoro area of Agege, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Awope said the sureties should be gainfully employed and also show evidence of two-year tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offence on June 28 at his tenement house.
Ayorinde alleged that the accused stole N700,000 belonging to his neighbour, Mr Gospel Ugbage.
He said the complainant kept his room key at the doorpost to enable his sister to gain access to the room anytime she comes, adding that unknown to him, the accused sighted him while hiding the key.
“Immediately the complainant left, the accused went there, picked the key and opened the door to steal the money he kept in his room.’’
The case was adjourned until Aug. 11 for mention. (NAN)
