Jalingo, July 29,2017(NAN) The Federal Science and Technical College, Jalingo, Taraba, on Saturday presented prizes to 49 students and 43 teachers for their hard work and dedication to duty.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the 49 including senior and junior secondary school students,  received various prizes for their proficiency in Mathematics, Physics, Radio and Television, Metal Work, Basic Electricity, among others.

The 43 teachers of the college got prizes for most dedicated prep master, dedicated teaching staff, effective form master, effective examination committee members, among others.

Presenting the prizes to the beneficiaries, at a Speech and Prize Giving Day of the college, in Jalingo, the college principal, Mrs Esther Akamo, said the awards were given to recognise intelligent, honest and well -behaved students and dedicated staff.

She urged other students who did not get any award not be discouraged, as there was room for improvement on their performances in subsequent years.

Akamo said the college which was established in 1988 had a students population of 900 adding that 12 trade courses and general subjects were taught to students in it.

She, however, expressed concern that the college was operating in a temporary building which was grossly inadequate for the students population, saying that the college’s permanent site was yet to be completed.

The principal said that there were 81 academic and 97 non-academic staff in the college, urging the Federal Government to retain some of the college’s temporary staff on permanent basis.

Earlier, the Director, Basic and Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Ibadin Patrick, said the occasion enabled the college to take stock of its achievements and challenges.

He urged the students to pay attention to their studies, saying technical education was the solution to the current unemployment rate in the country.

Responding on behalf of the students and teachers, the outgoing Head Boy, Ibrahim Patrick and the Vice Principal, Special Duties, Mr Onuma Ike-Awa, both thanked the school for the prizes and promised to work harder for the development of the school.

Highlights of the occasion includes display of woodworks and traffic light and signal equipment constructed by the students.(NAN)
