Lagos, July 25, 2017 (NAN) Samson Samora, a senior national handball player, has appealed to the Sam Ocheho-led board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) to enhance the standard of National Premier league.

Sammora told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos, that the national league was a major activity that strengthened the growth of handball and its players.

NAN reports that in 2009, the game developed into premier league which is the highest championship of every sport in the country with the maiden game played in Kaduna in 2010.

“Now that the expected change has come and the board has been inaugurated, the board members must give precedence and improve the present state of national premier league.

“Although the national league was held last year after several years of inactivity which really slowed the pace of the development of the sport in the country.

“I have no doubt that they have their blueprint but the national league is a unifying competition for state teams and clubs and needs to be stable,’’ he said.

He said that with such programme in place, players would be encouraged and commit their best in their training to enable them absorbed by a club or state team.

The player also said the exodus of players would be reduced as existing and upcoming players would be engaged with meaningful activities in addition to other national competitions.

“Players don’t have enough competition to keep them on their toes and they are really hungry for such league and other national competitions which must be regular.

“The idea is to ensure that the lost glory of handball will be restored, players will be happy and will remain committed.’’ (NAN)
