Abuja, July 19, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade I Area Court in the FCT on Wednesday sentenced a 35-year-old, Chukuwudi Aim, to four months imprisonment for extortion.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, convicted Aim after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N20, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.
Police Prosecutor Dalhatu Zannah had told the court that the complainant, Mr Joseph David of Utako, Abuja, reported the incident at Utako Police Station on July 5.
Zannah said on July 4 at 5.00 p.m., Aim of Jabi Garage, Abuja, with another man at large conspired and took the complainant to a bush for no just cause.
He said that the accused intentionally took the complainant from Berger Junction to unknown place and threatened to attack him with a knife before collecting a phone valued at N5, 000 and other valuables from him.
Zannah said during police investigation the accused had admitted committing the offence, adding that the phone was recovered from him.
The offences contravened Sections 79 and 292 of Penal Code. (NAN)
