Abuja, July 17, 2017 (NAN) The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, Dr Shehu Mahmud, on Monday urged civil servants to embrace change and promote effective public service delivery.
Mahmud made this call at the opening of an induction programme organised for newly recruited members of staff in Abuja.
He said the training was part of the ministry’s commitment to evolving a well-informed, skilled and efficient workforce, saying the last training was held in 2014.
“This training is an avenue to introduce you to the code of conduct in the federal civil service so as to equip you to imbibe courtesy and good service delivery, commitment to duty and discipline in the workplace.
“We are also inculcating honesty, accountability and transparency in the course of service delivery and above all, you should eschew all forms of corruption and embrace change,” he said.
The permanent secretary said that the training would be extended to all members of staff.
Mahmud said that it was an opportunity to expose them to the rudiments of the Federal Civil Service and the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Environment.
He said that the training would also avail the inductees on what to do, what to avoid and how to scale through their service career.
He said that the training has been developed in line with the dynamics of change in the country.
Mr Gabriel Loto, the Director of Human Resources in the ministry, said that the training was an opportunity to break the jinx of poor training and awareness on the workings of the ministry.
He called on participants to open their minds toward effective learning and personal development, saying that the civil service was a dynamic service which needed expertise and skills.
An inductee, Mr Oyediran Olowoshoke, who responded on behalf of others, thanked the management of the ministry for deeming it fit to introduce them to the basics of the civil service.
He pledged that the new members of staff would carry out their duties responsibly, with utmost commitment and transparency in their efforts to give effective service delivery. (NAN)
