Lagos, July 14, 2017 (NAN) Two men, suspected to be cultists — Charles Irikviwe and Aniefiok Udom, 28 — were on Friday charged with murder and membership of an unlawful society at an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

They were, however, remanded at Ikoyi Prisons for 30 days pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused — Irikviwe, 29, and Udom, 28 — are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, murder and managing an unlawful society.

The prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 23 at No. 20, Palace Road, Ijanikin on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

He alleged that Irikviwe, a member of Bukania Confraternity and Udom, a member of the Vikings Confraternity shot dead a man,  Demi Ojetola, at Ijanikin.

Ojetola was killed with a locally made pistol, he said.

The offences contravened Sections 41, 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised)

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence is punishable with death by hanging.

The Magistrate, Mrs Kofo Ariyo, adjourned the case until Aug. 15 pending legal advice. (NAN)
