Stealing

Ikorodu (Lagos State), July 13, 2017(NAN) An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday admitted to bail five men, who allegedly burgled a house and stole mattresses and other household items, in the sum of N100,000 each.
The accused: Segun Buhari (23), Azeez Adewolu (2), Ojo Adeleke (20), Laja Akpolokemi (18), and Sunday Oluwanishola (30), are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The accused, however, all pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, who gave the ruling, also ordered the accused to produce two sureties each, in like sum, as part of the bail conditions.
Olatunji said their sureties must be family members, with evidence of tax payment and must be house owners, within the magisterial district.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Bosede Adegeshin, insisted that the accused committed the offences between Nov. 2016 and May 2017 at Awobo St., Igbogbo.
Adegeshin alleged that the accused, all residents of Igbogbo/Offin communities in Ikorodu, burgled the house of one Olaitan Ipaye, and stole the items, while she was away.
“They stole items such as television, mattresses, torchlights, hot plates, gold chains and clothes.
“The owner saw some of the items when it was put up for sale by the receiver.
“The last accused, Sunday Oluwanishola, received the stolen goods from the four others,’’ she alleged.
According to the prosecutor, the stolen items are worth N300, 000.
The offences contravened Sections 411, 307 and 285 of Lagos State Criminal Code Laws, 2015 (Revised).
The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 10, for hearing. (NAN)
