Abuja July 11, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court in Karmo, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old unemployed man, Gambo Sani, to two months imprisonment for stealing two mobile phones valued N75,000.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, who handed down the sentence, however, gave Sani an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
Sadiq warned the convict to desist from committing crimes, noting that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others would be offenders.
Sani, who resides at Dape village, Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.
He pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
The Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, had told the court that one Surajo Bala arrested and took the convict to Life Camp Police Station on July 7.
Dalhatu said that Bala told the police that the convict came to his shop at Kado where he sells and repair phones on the pretence that he wanted to buy a phone.
The prosecutor told the court that while Bala was attending to another customer, the convict stole two BlackBerry phones valued N75,000 and sneaked away.
Dalhatu added that the convict was arrested where he was trying to sell the phones.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened is sections 342 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
