Abuja, July 10, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) says it will make compliance with Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) as part of the requirements in bidding for Federal Government contracts.

The Managing Director of NSITF, Mr Adebayo Somefun said announced this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja after his familiarisation visit to the Lagos regional office of the organisation.

He decried the nonchalant attitude of employers in complying with the provision of the ECS law.

He said that the management of NSITF was working on making its compliance certificate compulsory for all employers interested in bidding for government contracts.

He said that the management was working with major stakeholders to ensure that NSITF Compliance Certificate became a major requirement at any government offices.

“This will ensure strict compliance and thereby reduce the burden on enforcement teams,’’ he said.

Somefun expressed concern that employers were not keen toward implementation of ECS due to lack of strict enforcement and prosecution.

He said that although NSITF did not have the power to seal up company premises, it had power to use other means to enforce compliance.

The NSITF chief unveiled a four-point agenda that will guide the conduct of the present management, which include consolidating the achievement of the previous administrations and improving on the existing systems.

Others are the raising the revenue base to meet the fund’s statutory responsibilities and to rebrand NSITF through aggressive publicity campaign.

The rebranding is with a view to improving public acceptance and motivation of staff through improved welfare provisions. (NAN)
