Abuja, July 7, 2017(NAN) The Captain of RIV Queens of Port Harcourt, Perewari Kio, says her team has the capacity to win the 2017 Hockey Super League.
Kio told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that the team had prepared well to become champions of the league in which 15 teams would participate.
“What we are expecting is a win. We know that everybody in this league is a champion.
“So, we are well prepared to make a mark in this year’s league, God helping us. We are prepared morally and physically to win,’’ she said.
Kio also urged her teammates to be focused to win every game.
“I want my teammates to remain focused, we have all it takes to win, and all we need is for us to remain focused.
“We have come to win. So we must be focused to achieve our goal,’’ she added.
NAN recalls that RIV Queens were not part of the teams in the 2016 edition.
The competition which begins on July 15 at the Abuja National Stadium will feature seven matches each day.
The male teams for the tournament are two-time champions, Niger Flickers of Minna, Union Bank of Lagos, Police Machine and Yobe Desert Rollers of Damaturu.
The others are El-Kanemi Flickers of Maiduguri, Kada Stars of Kaduna, RIV Kings of Port Harcourt and IGP Flickers.
In the female category of the competition are Kada Queens of Kaduna, Heartland of Owerri, Benue Amazons of Makurdi and IGP Babes.
The rest are Yobe Desert Queens of Damaturu, Plateau Queens of Jos and RIV Queens of Port Harcourt.
Twenty-four officials to be led by Hulda Ambe, would be on ground to ensure that the league went on smoothly.
