Roads

Abakaliki, July 6, 2017 (NAN) The Ebonyi Government on Thursday said it had completed the rehabilitation of over 90 percent of roads and streets in Abakaliki within two years of the current administration.
The State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mr Fidelis Nweze, stated this while receiving members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi Chapter, in his office.
“The reason behind the ongoing road projects and other infrastructure layouts is to give a face-lift to the state capital and improve the overall aesthetic beauty of the capital.
“Infrastructure in the state before now was poor but now the story has changed.
“ We have constructed over 90 percent of roads and streets in the capital and the facts are there to speak for themselves.
“ I want to assure you that before the end of the year, we must have completed construction of all internal roads within the state capital.
“It is your duty to showcase the activities of government; let it not always be criticisms when government is doing well.
“ You can constructively criticise when government is not doing well but with facts and not fictitious reports that will not benefit you and the society,’’ Nweze said.
The commissioner said that the state government was also carrying out road projects in Afikpo and Onueke in Ebonyi South and North Senatorial Districts.
He added that a similar exercise was extended to the 13 local government areas to ensure that no section was left out in the provision of democracy dividends in the state.
The commissioner urged the media to be objective in the reportage of government programmes and policies.
“The state government has touched the local councils in the state infrastructure-wise and that’s why the residents are asking the governor to continue his good works.
“With the pace the governor is going on in infrastructure development, very soon the state will overtake states that began before it in terms of infrastructural development.
“We appreciate the cooperation of journalists in their duty of informing the public about the activities of the state since the present administration came on board,” he added. (NAN)
