Lagos, July 6, 2017(NAN) A 28-year-old commercial driver, Wasiu Adeniyi, who allegedly damaged a trailer’s windscreen valued at N200, 000, was on Thursday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused was arraigned before Magistrate F. A. Azeez, on charges of breach of peace and malicious damage.
Adeniji, who resides at Kajola Street, Mushin, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Emmanuel Ajayi, the accused committed the offences on July 1 on Agege Motor Road, Mushin.
He said the accused malicious damaged the windscreen of a trailer, property of Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd.
“The accused damaged the trailer’s windscreen driven by Hammed Alimi, a staff of the company, valued at N200,000.”
Ajayi said the accused stoned the windscreen when the complainant (the driver) when the traffic light stopped him.
“The complainant refused to move when the traffic light stopped him, the accused who was driving behind him ordered him to move but the complainant ignored him.
“The accused came down from his bus and started stoning the trailer and in the process, he damaged the windscreen,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 166 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed three years if found guilty, according to Section 339.
The case was adjourned until July 25 for mention. (NAN)
