Abuja, July 3, 2017 (NAN) Dr Joe Abah, Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), said on Monday that the bureau has set out plans to simplify the Nigerian budget for easy understanding by citizens.

Abah, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, said that the budget would be explained in a straightforward way and simple language.

According to him, the bureau is doing some work in the budget office to explain the budget in very straightforward and easy terms for the citizens to understand.

“ The budget office produced a book called the “Citizen’s guide to the budget’’ in 2014, which we want to update now.’’

Abah explained that the bureau was also working on actualising the ten-year strategic plan of the Head of Service, which aims at reforming the public service sector.

He said the bureau has been implementing and updating the strategic plan to capture all the necessary improvements for civil service administration.

“And these include the work we are doing on social economy development, the N-power project and the school feeding programme.

“We also now have a consolidated national anti-corruption strategy which we didn’t have before.

“All of those things have been captured into the revise strategy, we will continue to make progress on the issues under the strategy,’’ he said.

Abah also said the bureau in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) was intensifying efforts to address challenges in the ongoing Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) verification process.

He mentioned network and security issues as the challenges faced by public servants during the IPPIS update, stating that nothing good comes easy.

Commenting on the bureau’s plan for this year as budget has been approved; Abbah said they would focus on research, documentation and sensitisation of the public.

He explained that the nature of their job was majorly intellectual and not physical construction.(NAN)
