Court remands man over theft of N2.2m car

Ilesa (Osun), June 29, 2017 (NAN) An Ilesa Chief Magistrate’s  Court on Thursday remanded one Segun Oshor, 52, in prison custody over alleged  theft of  a car worth N2.2 million.

The Prosecutor, Sgt Lamidi Rasaq, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct.13, 2016,at about  6:00 am at Ijesa Social Elite Club,  Isokun Street, Ilesa.

Rasaq said that the accused conspired with others,  now at large,  to steal the vehicle.

He said that the accused stole  a  Toyota Corolla Sport 2004 car,   thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 390 (9)  (10a) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, Mrs S.F. Gimba-AbdulSalam, applied for the bail of  his client,  pledging  that he  would not jump bail.

Chief Magistrate Joseph Owolawi granted  bail to the accused in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Owolawi  said  that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and  reside  within the court’s  jurisdiction  while one of them must be a civil servant.

He also said  that the second surety must produce three years tax clearance certificate.

The magistrate, who  ordered  the remand of the accused in Ilesa prison  pending  the perfection of the  bail conditions, adjourned the case till  Aug. 2  for hearing.(NAN)
