Man docked over alleged N500,000 theft

Abuja, June 29, 2017 (NAN) A 22-year-old man, Emmanuel Peter, was on Thursday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing his employer’s N500,000.

Peter, who resides at FRSC Estate Lokogoma, Apo, Abuja, is facing a count charge of theft by servant.
The offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Mr Fidelix Ogbobe, had told the court that the matter was reported at Apo Police Station, Abuja, on June 19, by one Benjamin Agbo of Yayale Estate.

Ogbobe said that Peter committed the offence on the same date at about 6.30.a.m. at Block B, Flat 1, Road 4, Yayale Estate.

The prosecutor said that the complainant employed Peter as a car washer on a monthly salary of N10, 000.

He told the court that on June 19 at about 6.30.a.m. when Peter came to wash the complainant’s car, he criminally stole the N500,000 out of N2million.

Ogbobe alleged that Peter stole the N500, 000 out of N2 million kept inside a bag in the booth of the complainant’s Mercedes Benz, tied in bundles of N500, 000.

He alleged that police investigation prove that Peter did not return to his house immediately he left the complainant’s house.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, all efforts made to recover the said amount proved abortive.

The defendant, however, denied committing the offence, while the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagariko, granted him bail in the sum of N550,000 and a surety in like sum.

Kagariko adjourned the case until Aug. 9 for hearing. (NAN)
