Jos, June 28, 2017(NAN) In its efforts to identify opportunities toward engaging youths in positive ventures, a Jos-based Church, Shepherds House International Assembly, says it is organising a workshop on investment opportunities.

“The workshop will commence on July 1, 2017; it will be followed by a month-long skill acquisition programme after participants had identified areas of interest,” its resident Pastor, Victor Asemah, said in Jos on Wednesday.

Asemah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Church was particularly worried about the indolence among youths, and stressed the need for the Nigerian society to look into ways of engaging such energetic group on worthy ventures.

“If we do not engage the youths, the devil will do that and the society will be the worse for it,” he said.

The Pastor said that the workshop would look at areas that had remained untapped, and examine ways to explore them to create wealth and job opportunities.

“The current economic recession affects everyone. When the poor are hungry, anger sets in and the rich cannot be at peace. So, no one can claim to be unaffected by the current situation,” he said.

Asemah said that the Church in Nigeria should never pretend to be unaware of the hardship people were going through, and called for practical measures toward bringing succour to those in need.

He said that the workshop would conduct practical exercises on the making of industrial products like Vaseline and hair cream, as well as the making of snacks and pastries.

“Other areas include farm produce, fish farming, poultry feeds production and skills like shoe making, among others,” he said.

The Pastor said that the current hardship was impeding families and individuals’ commitment to serving their creator as people were being distracted by the worries of the world.

“Many cannot serve God well because their minds are full of thoughts over how to meet basic needs of their families.

“This workshop will enlighten members of the public on investment opportunities and how to start up businesses even without any substantial capital,” he said.

Asemah pointed out that government could not meet all the needs of Nigerians, declaring that entrepreneurship was the only path to self reliance. (NAN)
