Ilorin, June 23, 2017 (NAN) The police command in Kwara on Friday said it would
activate all its departments to ensure safety of lives and property before, during and after the forthcoming Muslim Eid-el fitr celebration.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
Muslims all over the world are set to celebrate the end of the 29 or 30 days of Ramadan fast as prescribed by Almighty Allah.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and fasting in the month is
one of the pillars of Islam. It is expected to end on Sunday or Monday, depending on when the moon for next month of Shawwal will be sighted.
Okasanmi said the new Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Lawan Ado, would lead other men and officers of the command for what he described as “tight and coordinated operations.”
He explained that the new police boss came to the state with a conviction to maintain the existing peace and harmony.
He added that “we have 4000 personnel in Kwara and all of us will be on duty from today.
“No one will be allowed to go on leave during this period except a sick person.
“The people of the state are law abiding and I am sure they will not want to constitute any unlawful thing that may amount to security threat.
“We will make use of intelligent officers to gather information on how best to celebrate a hitch-free Sallah.”
The spokesman warned against any acrobatic display by motorcyclists and overloading by transporters, saying offenders would be accordingly dealt with.
The PRO of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Henry Bilesanmi, also told NAN that the command would be deploying 2000 men and officers for the Sallah celebrations.
Bilesanmi said the command’s security plans would cover every nook and cranny of the state, stressing however, that “we will concentrate more on worship places.
“We will man junctions and key into the state’s security arrangement.
“We are also working with other security operatives to ensure safe Eid-fitri celebrations.
“We have briefed our men on the need to be proactive and be on top of their game.”
Bilesanmi urged the people of the state not to take laws into their hands in the name of celebration but be law abiding as usual.
The NSCDC spokesman urged citizens to report any suspicious movement
to the command or security operative. (NAN)
