Abuja, June 22, 2017 (NAN) Miss Oliver Edward and Hallematu Bindir on Thursday beat 18 others to emerge overall winners at Beginners and Intermidiate categories of the 4th Korean language contest in Abuja.
The 20 contestants, 10 for each category, were given three minutes each to make a presentation on a particular topic in the Korean language.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bindir, a 2013 graduate of a Chemical Engineering at the Aston University, United Kingdom, who presented the topic “Oncheon” (meaning “Spa”), beat nine other contestants to emerge winner in the Beginners category.
Similarly, Edward, a graduate of Industrial Chemistry from University of Benin, with her presentation “My Life and K-Pop” beat nine others at the intermediate category to take the trophy.
Other winners for the Beginners category are, Miss Oluwaseyi Aderogba, second runner up, and Miss Victoria Jimoh, third runner up respectively.
For the intermediate category, Miss Miracle Moses, was second runner up while Franklin Fache emerged third runner up
Edward and Bindir were given N30,000 each; the two second runners up, got N20,000 each and third runners up N10,000 each.
In his vote of the thanks, the Director, Korean Cultural Centre, Mr Han Sungrae congratulated the winners adding that it was a tough contest.
He also encouraged other participants to put in more effort and win the next year’ edition of the contest.
Sungrae explained that it was good for Nigerians to learn Korean language.
“The more you learn about Korean language, the more you will enjoy watching Korean dramas, listening to Korean music and many other benefits.
“If you can speak Korean very well, you can have advantage over those who cannot speak in terms of employment in many Korean companies in Nigeria and Korea.
“You can also win a Korean Government Scholarship to study in Korea,” Sungrae said.
The Korean language speaking contest is an annual event hosted by the Korean Cultural Cultural Centre in Abuja. (NAN)
