Man in court over alleged house-breaking, theft

Abuja, June 22, 2017 (NAN) A 26-year-old man, Ogeleye Kayode, was on Thursday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly breaking into a neighbour’s house and stealing cash and clothes.
Kayode, of Gaduwa Estate, is facing a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, house-breaking, theft and mischief.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Fidelis Ogbobe, told the court that one Mr Usifo Umijie of Gaduwa Estate, reported the matter at Apo Police Station on June 17.
According to the complainant, the defendant conspired with one Suleiman Suleiman who is now at large, to commit the crime.
He said that on June 16, while the complainant was away, the defendant with his partner in crime criminally conspired and trespassed into the complainant’s house.
“They climbed the roof and broke into his room by removing some sheets of zinc, ransacked the whole room and stole some items,’’ Ogbobe said.
The prosecutor said further that N200,000 and items such as cloth materials valued at N55,000 were stolen.
He said the offences were contrary to the provisions of Sections 97, 348, 355, 288 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
Kagarko adjourned hearing until Aug. 8. (NAN)
