2 motorcyclists in court for allegedly violating road traffic rules

Mararaba (Nasarawa State), June 22, 2017 (NAN) Two motorcyclists- James Danladi, 19, and Gambo Teller, 30, were on Thursday arraigned in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, for allegedly violating traffic rules.

Danladi and Teller who are commercial motorcyclists of different addressesm, are facing a three-count charge of causing road obstruction, operating without registration number and operating without side mirror

The prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 13, around 10:30 a.m. at Aso Road, Mararaba.

He said that the accused persons rode their respective motorcycles with neither registration numbers nor side mirrors and obstructed road users.

The prosecutor added that the accused persons, through their actions also caused havoc on the same road.

According to him, the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 63 (3), 4 (1), 54 (4) of the Road Traffic Act (RTA).

The two defendants denied committing the offences.

The judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the defendants N50, 000 bail each with one surety in like amount.

Shekarau said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned until June 29, for hearing. (NAN)
