Kano, June 22, 2017 (NAN) A book which investigated the factors that made communities more resilient to violent actions and atrocities perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists in the North East was on Thursday presented to the public.
The book, by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Kano, is titled: “Understanding Community Resilience in the Context of Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria’’.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that CITAD with support from the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) had conducted research on the Boko Haram menace and published the outcome of the research as a book.
CITAD Executive Director, Mr Yunusa Zakari at the presentation said the book would give Nigerians the opportunity to learn necessary lessons that would facilitate the reconstruction, rebuilding of devastated communities, as well as resettlement of millions of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
“The research will also enable us to learn how we can fortify our communities to make them resilient against such movements,” he said.
He, however, stressed the need for security agencies in the country to focus more on intelligence gathering so as to tackle the various insecurity challenges facing the country.
According to him, the research has drawn lessons on how to deepen resilience and enhance community capacity to bounce back from devastation.
He described community resilience as key to the overall security strategy to any nation in the world.
Zakari said the book had also provided specific recommendations on what policy makers need to do to fortify their communities to enable them withstand or overcome any security challenge.
NAN reports that the 132 page book was edited by Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim of the Centre for Democratic Research and Development, Abuja, and Zakari. (NAN)
