Abuja, June 21, 2017 (NAN) Mr Mustapha Shehu, the Ex-President of the Federation of African Engineering Organisation (FAEO) has commended African Engineering Institutions for supporting him for the Presidency of the World Federation of Engineering Organisation (WFEO).

Shehu, a former President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), gave the commendation on Wednesday in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

NAN reports that WFEO is the umbrella of all engineering bodies in the world, which advises the United Nations on engineering-related issues.

Shehu said his emergence as a candidate for the contest followed his antecedents as the president of FAEO.

He said that it would be the first time a Nigerian would be contesting for the position the first in the history of Nigeria.

The ex-president of FAEO said the presidency and other relevant ministries had been duly informed of his interest and candidature for the position.

According to him, all the engineering institutions in Africa are with me and they are the people who say I should go for the position.

“If elected, it will avail us the opportunity to put Nigeria on the global engineering map and also, present Nigeria’s case at a global level.

“It is not a small thing to say that you are the president of the WFEO; this is the organisation that advises the United Nations on all engineering issues.

“Certainly, engineering issues today are very challenging in Africa, so if we are not there to speak for our continent, some people will be made to talk on our behalf,” he said.

Shehu pledged to ensure that the interests of Nigeria and Africa in general are protected, if elected the president of the organisation. (NAN)
