Salesman bolts with employer’s N1.3m tricycle parts

Abuja, June. 20, 2017 (NAN) A 30-year-old salesman, Peter Joseph, was on Tuesday brought before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, fover alleged N1.3 million fraud.

The accused, who lives on Airport Road, Abuja, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Police Prosecutor Oyeyemi Adeniyi told the court that the complainant, Mr Mohammed Garba of Gawi Investment, Garki, reported the case to the Police Area Command, Metro, Abuja, on Feb. 13.

Adeniyi said  the complainant had entrusted the accused, his salesman,  with the task of selling goods (tricycle spare parts) worth N2.5 million before he travelled.

The accused was expected to remit the proceeds to the company’s account after sales, but failed to do so and appropriated the money, he said.

According to him, when the complainant returned the accused had disappeared.

Adeniyi said that on June 5, the police traced the accused to Jos where he was found and apprehended.

The offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Teribo Jim, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Further hearing has been fixed for July 26. (NAN)
